Challenge

In 2019 Mr Susan matured. Moving away from their roots in food trucks and Markthalle 9, they sought a permanent home, somewhere to create world class cocktails, paired with perfect bar food.

The bar itself, decked in purple velvet, gold walled toilets, floral wallpapers imported from LA and vibrant colour, conformed to none of Berlin’s style tropes. Neither did its location, Mitte not Neukkoln or Kreuzberg.

The original brand, rolling with the ad hoc, custom culture of previous endeavours needed to mature.

 

Wordmark

Solution

A world class bar, with big plans. The new brand would retain some of the ‘joie de vivre’ and irreverent fun of Mr Susan, but present itself in an entirely different way.

The wordmark itself references Parisian bar and cafe culture in visual form, but with a typically Mr Susan twist, applying an inspired LA colour palette to the forms and structures.

Other materials referenced this palette, adding gold foil block to hand bound menus, gold leaf for interior mirrored signage and custom pins and aprons for the team of mixologists.
